Dedicated to My Grandma

I am sad to write that my Grandma Mavis has passed away.  She lived a long and rich life.  Full of family and love.  Today she will be celebrated and remembered for all of her wonderful qualities. Here are a few of them that I learned and that have stuck with me...

A&D Ointment doesn't sting when you put it on an "owie", I always requested it as a child after using it at Grandma's house.
  • Your morning coffee always tastes better with a slice of pie or cookie.
  • Pickled Herring is a food (to her), to me it was fishing bait. (we're a Swedish family)
  • Lingonberry jam is the absolute best.
  • Life without laughter is no life at all. She always had a smile on her face and a sweet and loving disposition.
  • There is always room for a spot of coffee after a meal.
  • Never, ever give up.
2008 Reunion
She had six children and raised a loving large family.  I have always been surrounded by family, attending regular family events and summer picnics at Sellwood Park in Portland.  It's been a tradition in our family since the mid 1930's. My grandmother's parents came over from Sweden, stopped in Michigan (where many of my cousins still are today, as well as still in Sweden) and then continued West to Oregon. I am thankful for their Pioneer spirit, full of adventure for what the new worlds' promise held for them.

Grandpa and Grandpa goofing off!
Thank you Grandma for all you have done, all you have been, and the family you have made possible for me to be apart of.  You will be deeply missed by all of us. I love our family history and am proud to be a Swede! Skål!

2002 Reunion
Xoxo,
Your loving granddaughter Katie (Annie)
